Individual vs Organization NPI explained

NPI-1 identifies an individual clinician or sole proprietor. NPI-2 identifies a group, facility, or organization. Both exist in the same public registry, but they answer different product questions.

If your UI always renders a person name, organization records will look broken. If your data model ignores entity type, billing and credentialing rules become harder to enforce.

For which JSON fields to map in code, see our integration-focused follow-up on NPI-1 vs NPI-2 field selection.
